Matthew Baldwin
A key ally for business
CEO and founder of Baldwin Global Consulting (BCG), Matt Baldwin has over 20+ years of experience in consulting and corporate leadership, expert in finance, M&A and operations. A UK-born Chartered Accountant, he is based in Paris and helps companies through all stages of their development and in transforming their businesses.
Matt founded BGC after recognising businesses’ growing need of experienced experts to assist them navigate a world of ever-accelerating change.
Matt benefits from having worked on “both sides of the fence”, first as a consultant with Big 4 firm PwC and then as a senior Executive of a European corporation. Matt has worked in Europe and North America and has experienced and appreciates differing working environments and cultures.
His versatility and broad range of experience allowed him to develop as an all-round Finance, M&A and Operations professional. His unique skillset and experience enable him to accompany companies through all important stages of their corporate life, from conception and creation of new ventures and new business-models, structural M&A operations (build-ups, acquisitions, disposals), through to continuous improvement projects and restructuring activities.
As a consultant, Matt notably worked on Merchant Equity’s acquisition of the BUT Retail Chain, Danone’s sale of its Canadian Bottled Water Business, as well as on the Post-Merger-Integration activities following Stanley Tools’ acquisition of Facom. It was at PwC, where he first familiarised himself with business operations, performing detailed analysis and modelling of the potential benefits of new emerging technologies, leveraging his scientific background and financial modelling skills.
As a Corporate Executive, Matt worked with top management to conceive an extensive turnaround plan, entailing (i) financial restructuring with the write-off of €300m of debt and raising of €70m of new capital from a syndicate of 18 banks, and (ii) a 5-year strategic and operational transformation, comprising of acquisitions, divestments, investment in new digital production technology and the rationalisation of conventional production capacity. Matt and the CPI team were awarded the first “Prix Ulysse” for the best corporate turnaround in France from the ARE (“Association pour le Retournement des Entreprises”) in 2011.
Whilst at CPI, he managed numerous acquisitions and divestments, including the creation and build-up of Labelys Label printing Group. He was also heavily involved in the sale of CPI Group to 4 different shareholders over a 15-year period.
During his time as VP of Operations, he developed a comprehensive skill set and experience in leading operational improvements, implementing new supply-chain models (leveraging digital production technologies) and restructuring (across France, Germany and the UK). His most recent operational achievements include the creation of the WileyCPI print implant and the turnaround and subsequent growth of CPI Books in the UK.
Matt was born in the UK, where he studied for a BSc in Physics and Astrophysics and then trained as a Chartered Accountant. He has lived in Paris, France for the past 20 years where he also qualified as Expert Comptable (French Chartered Accountant) and as a CFA Charterholder. He also holds qualifications in Lean Six-Sigma, Production Management, Supply Chain and Business Forecasting.
